Women of Note: Come Away In

Saturday 18th May
11:00 am – 12:00 pm

With their musical director, Chloë Allison, Women of Note offer songs to satisfy all tastes. Traditional Irish melodies, plus a splash of Mendelssohn and 1930s jazz, through to the Beatles.

The set of unaccompanied songs includes Down by the Salley Gardens – based on the poem by William Butler Yeats – Hoagy Carmichael’s smooth and mellow Nearness of You, The Beatles’ evocative Long and Winding Road and, as the title of the performance suggests, Karine Polwart’s joyous Come Away In.

The concert is neatly timed to slot in between a relaxed breakfast and a leisurely Saturday lunch and will have no interval.

This year Women of Note is celebrating a 30th anniversary of singing together.
