Part of a tour to promote Luca’s recent releases, this performance is informed by Luciano’s research on extended techniques and new music for solo clarinet and features compositions from Luciano’s last albums “Partenope” and “Poeta”. The Sequenza has been inspired by the famous line of Gustav Mahler’s “A symphony must be like the world, it must embrace everything” and includes sections of music that is notated or “composed in real time” where a “sequence” of propositions are developed by the musician during the piece. Luciano tries in this remarkable journey to embrace all styles of music he loves in an imaginative tour around the world from Western European music to Afro-American or folkloric music of Southern of Italy, from contemporary classical music with chromatic and angular-shaped lines to heartfelt melodies. Along with the World Premiere of a new piece informed by Luciano’s research, the programme also features classics by George Gershwin and Villa-Lobos, a masterpiece of the XX century (by Olivier Messiaen) and other original material recently premiered by Luca at St Martin in the Fields in London.
