A day of hands-on activities, live music, tours and street food and is on offer in Eddington on Saturday 14 September as the new community in Cambridge hosts a day of free activities for all to enjoy.
The day will feature over 20 attractions showcasing the new district developed by the University of Cambridge.
Now in its third year Open Eddington is part of the wider Open Cambridge programme and gives access to unseen areas and building as well as explaining the environmental features, arts programme and archaeology.
The event will include a street food market with the region’s top vendors and a licensed bar, live bands and performers, hands-on activities covering, art, sports and music, as well as educational tours and talks.
Tours will look at the low carbon energy centre, local conversation work and the art installations across the site. There will also be a talk from the University of Cambridge Archaeology Department covering a decade’s archaeological work and findings in the area.
The streets of Eddington will come alive with the sounds of funk, jazz and pop and will feature the Brass Funkeys who will bring their energetic New Orleans inspired street performance, as well as live acts throughout the day.
The Eddington street food market feature local favourites plus some new vendors including Steak & Honour, Buffalo Joe’s and Spanish flavours from Azahar. Drinks will be supplied by Cambridge bar Thirsty who are bringing their beer bus.
There will be hands-on activities for all ages including instrument making and band workshops. Cycling activities include a bike try-our show, bubble machine, sprint challenge, as well as art and crafts and outdoor games.
Visitors can travel to Eddington for free from the town centre and train station on the U bus service.
Activities run from 10am to 4pm, some tours and talks may require booking.
