Rhythms in the Landscape: Bharata Natyam Dance
Sunday 30th June
6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Sanskruti, Cambridge is headed by award-winning artistic director Krishna Zivraj-Nair, a highly trained Indian classical dancer, teacher and choreographer. Krishna is the recipient of the Nritya Ratna award in India and the Uttkarsh runner’s up award from Akademi, UK. She is also one of the eight recipients of the prestigious One Dance Teaching Mentoring programme 2017, given to those identified as the future industry leaders. Krishna’s student Linnea Husmann won the coveted national ISTD Bursary Award 2018 as the best young dancer across all dance genres. As Linnea’s teacher, Krishna has also received the ISTD Bursary Award for further professional development in recognition of outstanding teaching. Her students presented Bharatanataym at U. Dance Regional platform 2019 at DanceEast and were shortlisted by the judges to be considered for U. Dance 2019 finals.
Krishna’s artistic vision is to engage in choreographic exploration using South Indian classical dance technique as movement vocabulary. She creates high quality works that entwine the art of Indian storytelling with movement, fusing this with aspects of Western art and culture. The result is an original, interactive and multicultural dance performance, perfect for families. Krishna is passionate about making her work accessible to a wide audience, not just traditional theatre-goers, and has successfully toured her first professional work Apple ‘n’ Spice in theatres and libraries in 2018.
